Our summer interns and new grads are starting in the coming weeks! Though times may be different due to COVID-19, we’re excited to have them join us virtually from their homes in Massachusetts, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Virginia. Our 14 interns will be working in the Actuarial, Audit, Finance, IT, Underwriting and Business Development fields alongside our teams of experts. Additionally, we’re welcoming four new grads to join our Actuarial and Underwriting teams full-time. We look forward to working with them and being a part of their career development. Please join us in welcoming OneBeacon’s newest additions!
At OneBeacon, our people are our strongest asset, so we are always excited to welcome new talent and to offer our heartfelt thanks when long-time colleagues announce plans to step away from their roles. Today we have several such organizational announcements to share from our International Marine Underwriters (IMU) team.
Welcome Patrick Hickey and Beth Kirkpatrick
We are pleased to welcome Pat Hickey and Beth Kirkpatrick to the IMU team, both beginning June 1.
- Pat brings us 20+ years of marine experience and will join IMU’s Michelle O’Donovan as a Cargo Product Line Officer, reporting to IMU President, Bob Gallagher. Michelle and Pat will jointly oversee Cargo business across North America. Additionally, Pat will contribute to ocean marine operations in Canada. Prior to joining IMU, Pat held varied marine leadership roles, most recently at Aspen Insurance and previously at Zurich, AIG and Great American.
- Beth will join our North Pacific Regional team in Seattle as Assistant Manager, reporting to Regional President Dawn Dulay. In her new role, she will work with the regional staff on the production and underwriting of Hull, Liability, and Cargo risks. Beth has been exclusively focused on the marine market for 17 years, having previously worked at Crum &Forster, Marsh and AIG.
Please join us in welcoming both Pat and Beth to the IMU team!
Elizabeth Nittolo Retiring; Sam Hellebush Appointed Product Line Officer
After 11+ years with us, our friend and colleague Liz Nittolo will be retiring at the end of July. Over the years Liz has worked in various roles out of our New York City office, most recently as a Product Line Officer for Hull & Liability. She has also supported our marketing efforts and has been active in the marine insurance education community, frequently facilitating seminars and representing IMU at industry conferences. Thank you Liz for your many years of dedication, we wish you all the best in retirement!
Sam Hellebush will succeed Liz as Product Line Officer upon her departure, and will jointly oversee our Hull and Liability products with Bill Luce. Sam joined IMU in 2013 as a Marine Specialist and is also based out of New York City. You can contact Sam at 212.440.6565 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Congratulations Liz and Sam!
At OneBeacon, we continue to try and find creative methods to stay connected during this unprecedented time of social distancing and remote work. Our International Marine Underwriters (IMU) and Technology teams have both recently come up with unique ways to stay connected and bring a little fun to their days.
Ever since our company transitioned to remote work, IMU’s North Pacific Region has had regular conference calls. Recently the team decided to upgrade those calls to FaceTime.
“It’s wonderful to see each other’s faces, and feel more connected than to just a phone speaker,” says IMU’s Lauren Dixon.
The team is also participating in a 30 day song challenge, where team members pick one song a day based on a unique daily category. Learning a bit more about everyone’s musical tastes and interests has brought some unique fun.

Technology Shows Their Work
The Technology team recently decided to put their own spin on a remote work stations selfie contest. Participants were asked to take a selfie at their home “offices”– serious and/or silly. The winner, Pam Pearson, was chosen by a neutral judge (team member spouse) and received a prize in the mail.
Jennifer Weinstein, Assistant Vice President, Management Liability Claims, will be a panelist on the upcoming May 12 Webinar entitled “Navigating the Pitfalls and Challenges of COVID-19 and the Post-Quarantine Workplace.”
Moderated by Mercedes Colwin, Founding Partner, GRSM New York Office, the panel will focus on the changes that are expected in the work force as the country emerges from shelter in place ordinances, including measures that employers are expected to implement to safeguard employees. The panel will analyze the various screening measures and the attendant pitfalls of such actions. This panel will also discuss the claims on the horizon stemming from adverse employment actions taken in response to the economic shutdown.
In addition to Jennifer, other panelists include Victoria A. Lipnic, Commissioner, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Michele Fenice, Vice President, Claim Leader, Chubb Insurance.
