This week, claims representatives from two OneBeacon businesses are part of panel discussions at the 12th Annual E&O Insurance ExecuSummit taking place in Uncasville, CT.
Later today, Clyde Haig of OneBeacon Healthcare Group will participate on a panel titled, “The Weird, Wacky and Wonderful: Special Problems in E&O Claim Settlements.” This panel will focus on issues that can arise during claim settlements such as such as consent to settlement issues, problems unique to mediations, direct negotiations between plaintiff and the adjuster, drop down agreements and more.
Then on Tuesday, Financial Institutions’ Marty Coomber will join a panel discussion titled, “Claims and Defense Strategies for Handling Insurance Agents and Brokers E&O Litigation Issues Relating to Standard of Care, Twisting/Churning and Replacement of Policies.” The presentation will focus on what these terms mean, how regulations may vary by state and managing relationships during contentious times.
The E&O ExecuSummit is an educational event specifically designed for E&O professionals to provoke strategic thinking, open new channels of information and provide opportunities to meet and exchange ideas with industry colleagues.
This year’s PLUS International Conference is taking place in Atlanta, GA from November 1-3, and team members from several OneBeacon businesses are looking forward to the networking opportunities and educational sessions taking place during the conference.
Jennifer Weinstein, Assistant Vice President Management Liability Claims, will participate in one of these sessions titled, “WARNING – The Internet May Be Hazardous to Employees!” This panel discussion will focus on how employers must be prepared to prevent and/or address a wide range of workplace issues arising out of the internet and social media – whether there are potential safety issues that happen in the workplace or concerns about privacy and employers using social media to find out more about employees or potential employees. The panel will address policies and procedures employers can institute to mitigate some of those exposures.

This week, the 13th Annual Directors and Officers (D&O) Liability Insurance ExecuSummit took place in Uncasville, CT, and OneBeacon was there! ExecuSummit participants are in the forefront of the D&O Insurance industry, monitoring and researching emerging issues and trends, and bringing this strategic intelligence to attendees as it is developing.
This year, Financial Institutions’ Christopher Luca co-chaired the event. Additionally, he and Financial Institutions’ Claims Robert Usinger participated on a panel titled, “Activist Investments and Claims in the Hedge Fund Space.” This panel discussed recent trends and exposures that are unique to the hedge fund space, as well as potential emerging issues.
Also part of a panel discussion this year was Enterprise Underwriting’s Ryan Sardelli. “The State of the D&O Marketplace” encompassed carrier competition, business segments like public, private and non-profit, specific classes of business, international exposures and trends.
Due to a winter storm expected to hit the Northeast on Thursday, several OneBeacon offices will be closed on February 9 including:
- Connecticut- Farmington
- Massachusetts- Boston, Canton and Quincy
- New Jersey- Holmdel and Morristown
- New York- New York City
- Pennsylvania- Blue Bell
Those employees able to work from home should be reachable by phone and email. All offices are anticipated to be open for business as usual on Friday, February 10.

It offers those who are on the forefront of the D&O insurance industry insights to essential intelligence surrounding the intricacies of this product. Attendees will obtain a unique perspective and the ability to see patters and trends emerge.
OneBeacon Financial Institutions’ Chris Luca is a co-chair of the event, and will participate on a panel titled, “Developments in Private Investment Fund Coverage and Litigation.” OneBeacon Management Liability’s Stacy Paquet is part of a session titled, “Private Company D&O/EPL/Fiduciary Underwriting Issues and Claims.”
We are excited to welcome Chris Luca to OneBeacon as Senior Vice President of Financial Institutions. In this role, Chris is helping establish our newest business, focusing on product development, distribution and underwriting matters. His insurance career has specialized in financial institutions business for over ten years. Chris most recently served as Vice President of Everest National’s Financial Institutions group since 2009. He is based in our New York City office and reports to OneBeacon Financial Institutions President Kevin Koehler.
Kevin Koehler has joined OneBeacon as President of our new Financial Institutions business, reporting to John Iannotti, President of Professional Liability. Koehler will lead a team providing professional liability, management liability and fidelity coverages targeting all classes of financial institutions.
Koehler has over 22 years of professional liability experience focused on the financial institutions sector, most recently serving as Vice President of this segment for Everest National Insurance Company. Read our news release>>
