We’re excited to announce the winners of the 11th annual OneBeacon College Scholarship program! The OneBeacon Charitable Trust awarded $2,000 scholarships to 16 high school seniors – eight to children of OneBeacon employees and eight to children of our distribution partners. The program is managed by Scholarship Management Services®, a nonprofit scholarship program administrator. Recipients were selected based on their academic records, leadership skills and participation in school and community activities, among other criteria.

To help ensure the ongoing success of our industry, we appreciate opportunities to educate and mentor the next generation of insurance specialists. One recent example came through OneBeacon Technology Insurance (OBTI), which committed to a five-year sponsorship of a scholarship targeting students enrolled in the Georgia State Risk Management & Insurance program. The annual contribution is funded by the OneBeacon Charitable Trust. Recently, OBTI President John Wurzler presented the first sponsorship check to David Buechner, Director, Georgia State University Risk Management Foundation. And to reinforce our commitment, John will additionally assume a position on the Foundation’s board.

OneBeacon Government Risks’ Dennis Molenaar, Vice President of Industry Education, will present at the national Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA) Conference at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif. on June 11.
Molenaar’s presentation, entitled “Preparing for Litigation When an Accident Happens,” will provide an overview of why lawsuits of negligence have become a growing risk for public entities and how risk managers can mitigate against this possibility. The session will take place on June 11, at 11 a.m. PDT in room 202BC.
